Wandsworth’s Parent Carer Forum is run by a group of local Parents and Carers, who all have children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities, so we can relate the issues faced by other parents and carers. We are the voice of Parent Carers of children and young people (0-25 years of age) with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including those without a specific diagnosis.
We are a supportive group who, having been there ourselves, can understand the issues that many families are dealing with. We offer support by signposting parents and carers to the most appropriate services and organisations for advice and support.
We aim to:
Gather the views and experiences of local families through events such as coffee mornings.
Share parent/carers views and experiences with key policy makers in Wandsworth, in order to influence the planning and improvement of services that serve the needs of children and young people with SEND.
Work with local services to highlight where they are working well and challenge where changes and improvements need to be made.
Ensure that parents and carers have access to events and information that they might find helpful.
We love this introduction to autism by amazing things. It aims to raise awareness among young non-autistic audiences, to stimulate understanding and acceptance in future generations.
It is intended to be viewed, discussed and shared widely by anyone but especially teachers and parents.
Wandsworth’s Family Information Service (FIS) have produced a guide to the most common abbreviations / terms commonly used by professionals, schools and other settings, in relation to Special Educational Needs and disabilities.
